The Greater Manchester Good Employment Charter recognises excellent people management as a vehicle to organisational success, and to good employment more generally. We see that in the face of the COVID-19 pandemic and the cost-of-living crisis, leaders and managers have faced numerous challenges – from the switch to remote and hybrid working, to burnout and mental health concerns, amongst others.
This is why a focus on good leadership is more important than ever. Through our engagement with employers within the Good Employment Charter network, we have heard from individuals who have ensured their organisations not only survived these trying times, but succeeded and developed.
To celebrate and capture these achievements, we’ve worked with Gillian Drakeford, former Global Executive and UK CEO to IKEA, who has developed her findings into a paper through working closely with leaders across Greater Manchester. The paper also contains contributions from:
- John Quinton-Barber, Founder and CEO at Social
- Marie Mohan, Managing Director at Common Purpose
- Louise Brown, Vice Principal at Wigan & Leigh College
- Daphne Doody-Green, Head of the North at CIPD
- John Herring, Director of Organisational Development at GM Integrated Care System
- Sharon Amesu, Director of SA Consulting and GM Good Employment Charter Board Member
Great leaders will need to be keen to learn and adapt with the changing times with new and improved capabilities. This paper will discuss the different aspects of strong leadership, and will provide recommendations on how leaders and managers can take these steps.
